Elephants are found in an animal group on the map; there will be 1-2 elephants in a group (likely depending on year).
Only a Naturalist can tame an elephant. Male elephants will have the label "Bull Elephant".
Note that an elephant cannot get a Makeover at an Animal Shelter.

Gather Items
Every X days, the Elephant automatically gathers items, much like the Joobee the truffle hog. Gathering happens at the end of a travel leg, so you have some control over which tile is gathered from, and the delay will end up slightly longer than the table below, depending on when the ability triggers relative to the remaining time in the travel leg.

Large Beast
The elephant uses two character slots, has an unusually large cargo capacity (6), has bonus dice, and has an increased maximum level. Note that the XP cost to level up does not increase after level 8, so levels 9, 10, etc. will cost 70 XP each.
