There are several islands types you can encounter. Each island type has its set of tiles, some unique tiles, and some unique geographical topologies. They also have specific locations, tribes, and enemies.

Jungle[edit]

Jungle island type.

This is the first island type you encounter. It is probably the least difficult one to traverse. It has a lot of plains but also rivers and forests. It can be quite useful to equip a machete to traverse the forest tiles and spend fewer sanity points. The border of the island is surrounded by beach tiles.

Drylands[edit]

Drylands island type.

This is a very dry island type that is composed of deserts, dried-out forests, and general dry rocky terrain. Traversing desert tiles is especially sanity draining but this can be limited by taking water with you. This island type also has a desert storm hazard that can take you somewhere else when entering it. It also has some special enemies like scorpions and giant sandworms.

Archipelago[edit]

Archipelago island type.

The archipelago island type isn't one big island but rather a set of smaller islands linked together. They also have ferry stations on two or three islands that let you travel between those ferry stations. You can barter for a trip and the cost of the trip will depend on your standing towards the locals. The local tribe of the archipelago are Salamanders. They live in coral villages.

Caverns[edit]

Cavern island type.

The caverns are underground islands. They are often not surrounded by water but by cave walls. What is special about the caverns is that it is dark. So even when you uncover parts of the island you can only see in a certain radius around you. It is an island that has a lot of lava and lava crust tiles. The lava crust tile being a one-way tile because it becomes a lava tile when passing over it. It inhabits special enemies like bats and giants centipedes. This island type is also the home of the moles. It is a special tribe that lives underground and mines crystals.

Prehistoric[edit]

Prehistoric island type.

This island type is from the time of the dinosaurs. In fact, it is populated by dinosaurs and prehistoric animals. You'll be able to find raptors, stygimolochs, and even Tyrannosaurus-Rexs. These are some very dangerous enemies but you can also find dinosaur eggs and grow up a baby dinosaur (raptor, stygimoloch or parasaurolophus) that can join your trek once it is an adult if you have the chance. It is also a more difficult island type by its terrain. It has a lot of lava crust tiles and has sulfur tiles. The sulfur tiles will hurt your trek members when passing through them.

Corrupted[edit]

Corrupted island type.

The corrupted island type is a new one that has been added with the first free DLC 1.1.0. It is mostly a rather small island type but also quite dangerous. It is the homeland of the Pale Mask tribe that comes taking over islands of our dimension. It is accessible via a portal from any other island type. It is composed of only unique tiles like the glowing forest, blood springs or corrupted fields. It is also inhabited by special animals and enemies like critters, the Rampaging Duke, or flying jellyfish. It has a very special shrine that can cure a trek member from being a Pale Mask member and is the place where you can find the Duke to create potions. You have to find the portal on the other side of the island to get back to your dimension.
